You do not want your home to languish on the market for months without selling. It makes it difficult to get the price that you want because people will see that the house has been for sale for a long time, and they will try to use this as leverage. When you are selling, it should be your goal to make your home as appealing as possible so you can sell the property faster. You can do a number of things to make the home more desirable. The following are seven quick ideas that could help.
Paint the Interior
If the interior of your home has some dingy walls that don’t look great even after they’ve been washed, you might want to throw on a fresh coat of paint. You can do it on your own, or you can hire someone for the job. Even if the walls don’t look bad, some fresh paint never hurts. You want to make sure that you keep the color neutral though, as it will make it easier for people to imagine themselves in the home.
Paint the Exterior
You should also consider painting the exterior of the home. Fresh paint will help make the home appear newer, and it will show that you’ve taken care of the property. Again, you want to keep the colors relatively simple. Even if purple is your favorite color, it doesn’t mean that everyone else will want to buy a purple home.
New Cabinets or Hardware
Adding some new cabinets to the kitchen or the bathroom is a good idea as well. If you can’t afford brand new cabinets, don’t worry. You can always paint or stain them instead. Adding new hardware is a nice touch as well.
Consider Some Upgrades
Think about some other upgrades you might be able to make. For example, changing out the carpeting could be a good idea. you could also upgrade your appliances to those that are a bit more modern.
Landscape the Yard
Mowing, trimming the hedges, adding some landscape lighting and security lighting, and essentially improving the curb appeal of the property is also very important.
Removing the Clutter
Remove all of the clutter from the home on the inside and outside. This doesn’t mean that you should just jam everything into the garage, basement, or attic either. You want to make sure that the home is clean and as impersonal as possible. Again, this helps people imagine themselves in the property.
Make Sure the Price Is Right
If you are trying to sell your home for more than the market value, it’s not going to move. Talk with your real estate agent about a realistic price for your home, and then price it accordingly.
Think about each of these different methods of improving the appeal of your property and implement a couple of them. While there is no guarantee that your home will sell faster, it does help to increase your chances.
