A picture is worth a thousand words, right? That’s what you’re thinking when you post all of those pictures of your lovely home on the Internet. But, there’s another saying that holds true, as well! Seeing is believing.
Without a doubt, the home showing is the most crucial element of the home sale process. Unfortunately, despite its importance, it also happens to be one of the things homeowners most often get wrong!
Because of this, we thought we’d share some common mistakes that homeowners make when they’re showing their homes to buyers. If you know what these mistakes are, hopefully you can avoid them in the future!
- Stinky: Sure, people may buy with their eyes, but that doesn’t mean you should discount the other senses! This is especially true of smell. While your home may look like the Ritz Carlton, if there’s an offensive odor, that’s going to leave a negative impression on your potential homebuyer. Therefore, make sure you’ve aired out your home before showings and that you’re keeping pets from leaving unwanted surprises around the home.
- Hangin’ Around: We understand, you’re heavily invested in selling your home, and you know it better than anyone else. But, when there are potential buyers at your front door, you should be nowhere to be seen! Homebuyers want to imagine themselves taking over your property, and the more interaction they have with you, the more they feel like they’re taking someone else’s home rather than purchasing their own home.
- Keeping It Personal: This follows off of the last mistake. Is your home filled with pictures of you and your family? Do you have your son or daughter’s homework displayed proudly on the fridge? Is their a family portrait hanging in the entranceway? You may think this makes your home feel more like a home, but it creates an odd impression for the prospective homebuyer. Get rid of this stuff before showing your home!
Without a doubt, avoiding the above three mistakes is very important when you’re selling your home. However, there are other mistakes that you could make. So, we’ll be covering three more in a later post.
